Three years ago when I was 63, I discovered in a dramatic way that I no longer had the ability to get out of a canoe. I was visiting a friend at his camp on Schroon Lake in the Adirondacks. We went to a canoe distributor’s pond to try out a solo canoe I wanted to buy for my wife. My wife and I met 30 years ago and quickly bonded through our mutual love of canoeing and camping. She still married me in spite of experiencing the hardships of several wilderness camping trips together, for which I will forever be amazed and grateful. Over the years though advancing hip joint arthritis had decreased my flexibility and mobility to the point we could no longer enjoy paddling a canoe together. That’s when I decided to buy her the solo canoe. I managed to get into the canoe I wanted to test, but when it came time to get out, I could not raise myself from the canoe seat. My friend and the distributor had to hold the canoe steady against the bank of the pond while I exited the canoe by rolling landward over the gunnel into the mud on the shoreline.

Over the next three years I tried physical therapy and acupuncture to relieve my hip stiffness and increase my flexibility, with mixed results. When I came for the first visit to the Spinal Wellness Center of Ithaca, I stated my personal treatment goals were to regain enough flexibility to be able to tie my shoelaces while standing flat-footed on the floor, and to be able to paddle a canoe with my wife again without having to roll over the gunnel in to the mud to get out. After my fourth Advanced Bio-Structural Correction treatment, I was able to tie my shoes while standing, without resting my foot on the first step of the stairs. After my seventh treatment, I was once again able to board a canoe with my wife, paddle around the lake for about 15 minutes, and get out of the canoe like a normal person, feet first onto the shore. And when I did, I was sure I saw a glint of moisture in the corners of my grinning wife’s eyes. Thank you, Spinal Wellness Center.

Office Success Stories

Chiropractic is the largest drug-less health profession in the world. It is used by the large majority of professional athletes and celebrities.

It works by removing interference from the communication lines between the brain and the body (the Nervous System). We get to see miraculous changes in people every day we practice. Here are SOME success stories of the past few weeks:

The 27-year old female that was in a MAJOR accident in 2000 who came in to our office after months of pain, dizziness, and inability to breathe deeply. Frequent trips to MD’s and emergency rooms the past 2 years brought lots of ideas and drug prescriptions, but no improvement. One visit to our office brought tears of joy and relief as she took her first full breath in years. She was stupefied. I made her promise she would go back and tell all her previous clinicians what she found here.

The 61-year old who started care in February with chronic low back pain. He reports the pain is almost gone after 7 visits. He is completely functional doing hard physical tasks on the farm.

The 56-year old former mail carrier who had been on total disability after decades of low back pain and three back operations. After ONE visit, he was amazed at how much more functional he was. After three weeks, he has been working in the yard for 6 hours at a time, while his wife watches slack-jawed from the kitchen window. Doesn’t complain about his one-hour drive to get here. What a guy!

The 61-year old man who is more functional, bends his back and knees better. Operating a chain saw all day, he is no long sore in his low back like before.

The 27 -year old male who works in the library all summer and who started to feel tension and pain at the base of his neck and was experiencing low back pain. After 7 visits he reports it has mostly disappeared.

The 22 -year old female graduate student whose GERD (gastro-esophageal reflux disease) is all gone as her scoliosis is successfully treated. In addition, her vision has improved so much that she has had to get two new eyeglass prescriptions, each weaker than the last.

The 9-year old girl who complained for months that she could not breathe deeply and was anxious, especially at night. She was able to breathe fully and deeply  after just 2 visits.

There are many more, but you get the picture!

Unless it’s a tumor or an infection or a fracture, the VAST majority of people deviate from their ideal, effortless alignment because they’ve had bones out of place in ways they cannot self-correct, and Advanced BioStructural Correction™ is the answer to their problems. It is happening throughout the English-speaking world.(see the national ABC™ website click here.)

Workouts that are the most effective

This article is from the NY Times, July 25th 2012

The 10-Minute Workout, Times Three

The streets and gyms fill with people who, fueled by stories of Olympic success, “run or work out for an hour or more,” Dr. Gaesser says. But “within a few weeks, most people have quit” and resumed their sedentary lives. “We wanted to see if there were approaches to exercise that would fit more easily into people’s lifestyles, but still be effective” in terms of improving health, he says.

Specifically, he and his colleagues hoped to determine whether breaking up exercise into small, manageable segments performed throughout the day would work as well as one longer, continuous bout.
